We offer thorough eyecare personalised to your needs. This included detailed History & Symptoms and explaining all processes or results to you with an emphasis on health and meeting your eyecare needs.
The majority of our appointments are private eye examinations and your visit to us will typically be an hour to an hour
& a half. We recommend allowing 2 hours on parking or before any other commitments.
No Puff Intraocular Pressure Measurement
Eye pressure measuring is all done with no puff accurate icare technology, so is much less invasive and stressful, and we have found much more accurate than the older puff methods of measuring.
Advanced in depth Peripheral Vision Assessment
Visual Field (Peripheral) examination is done using advanced methods making it easier
for you to do, while giving us detailed and accurate information to pick up problems early and help avoid damage.
Detailed 3D OCT scanning
We do peripheral and anterior eye 3D OCT scanning which
allows us to make really detailed measurements of your eye, and therefore detect change more quickly. This also allows us to minimise how close we are in the eye exam, reducing risk of infection and
making the eye exam more comfortable.
All eye examinations with an experienced registered professional
Because we do all our own scanning, we see a far larger amount of the retina and anterior (front) of the eye than having other staff doing scans.
Measuring more of the eye
Our main OCT scan is usually 6 scans, and our extended OCT scan usually involves at least 12 scans, and wide view of the eye by eye steering in a further 8 meridians (directions within the eye) so with the advanced scan we are looking at typically 20 or more points within the eye.
Experienced Professionals
We have also been using OCT imaging since 2013, and were early adopters in our previous careers of widefield scan technology. This means we have been used to reading images and scans for many years.
That experience allows us to detect something unusual quickly and refer if needed - but also means we know when something doesn't need to be referred, because we have worked with hospitals and this technology for so long we are so used to what a 'normal' OCT looks like.
Flexible and Personalised examinations according to need
Our eye exams are done on electronic exam charts, allowing many different letter and test options, including
pictures for children or shapes/numbers for people who can't use letters. We can also do matching image tests where a patient points to the image on a card if they cannot tell us what it
is.
High quality examination with less heat and more comfort
When there is an issue with the front of the eye or if traditional examination
methods are needed, we have an LED high quality Slit Lamp Biomicroscope, which means high detail examination is possible, but without the energy use or heat generation of a standard Slit Lamp. This
is both more ecologically sound and much more comfortable for you as a patient.
NHS funded tests
As explained above, most of our work now is privately
funded, which means you pay for your visit whether normally entitled to NHS eyecare or not. Until Sept 2024 we provided NHS patients with much of the full private exam above, only a small part
of this service was funded by the NHS voucher.
With increasing costs this became unviable so we now have mostly Private eye exams, so there is now a charge for the majority of our patients. This allows us to provide long personalised eye exams while keeping our glasses prices reasonable.
We have kept a few short NHS appointments available at the end of the day, which are mainly aimed at children or those in financial difficulty. Anyone entitled to NHS funding can book one of these, however for an adult it must be on the understanding that it is only a very short and more basic examination compared to our normal eye exam, with much less time for investigation and discussion, and we cannot offer the same level of care as in our full examinations. If you have any questions about this please contact us.
